PhotoID Tools is a free set of tools for ID and passport photo sizes, print pixel/DPI calculation, and photo resizing.
Resizing runs only in your browser (canvas), and sizes/calculations are based on published formulas and official authority standards.
What is PhotoID Tools
PhotoID Tools is a free set of tools that helps anyone preparing ID photos for passports, ID cards, resumes, certificates, and more. We collect photo sizes (mm/pixels) by use case in one place, calculate the pixels needed for printing based on DPI, and let you resize an existing photo to the required size. Complex unit conversions and aspect-ratio fitting are made simple, with the formulas shown alongside.
Editorial principles (E-E-A-T)
- Experience — results reflect the sizes, backgrounds, and ratio rules actually used when submitting passport and ID photos.
- Expertise — calculations rely on standard unit-conversion formulas such as pixels = length (inches) × DPI and 1 inch = 25.4 mm = 2.54 cm.
- Authoritativeness — we link to official authority standards and sources, such as government passport guidance.
- Trustworthiness — we show the formulas, state clearly that common sizes are for reference, and never collect or store uploaded images.
Data sources
Sizes and standards are based on the following official sources and commonly used standards. Standards may change, and we update to the latest values when they do.
- U.S. Department of State passport photo guidance — passport photo size, background, and head-ratio standards
- UK passport photo rules — guidance on submitting passport photos
- International standard unit conversions — 1 inch = 25.4 mm = 2.54 cm, DPI (resolution) basis
About accuracy
The sizes and calculations from PhotoID Tools are reference estimates based on your input and published formulas. Sizes by use case are commonly used values, and required size, background, and file size may vary by issuer. In particular, for official submissions such as passports, always verify the latest requirements with the relevant authority first.
